This is the last in our series on common foot problems. We hope you have enjoyed the articles and found the information useful. To finish the series, we will look beyond the feet as many people know that when your feet are bad, it can hurt all over. Often seeing a Chiropodist / Podiatrist can have such a significant improvement in symptoms that your overall posture and gait improve. Even if you have no symptoms in your feet, correction of functional alignment problems in the feet can improve symptoms elsewhere in the body, and help prevent future difficulties.

A small structural or functional imbalance in the foot may often cause no pain at all. Instead, it may cause problems in the ankles, knees, hips, back, or even neck – all parts of the body that are connected to the feet by the skeleton. That effect may show as pain, instability, restricted movement, or in some cases, just fatigue. Aching shins, especially when running is a sign of this fatigue, and the condition is called shin splints. Orthotics are used to resolve the problem as they assist the feet to function more efficiently. They do this by controlling joint movement, and by altering some joint angles to prevent excessive motion. Foot Care Products are available from Health First in Southam or call 01926 811803 for a brochure or visit www.firstaidforfeet.co.uk
