Corns are often misdiagnosed as verrucae and vica versa, especially by doctors and others who are not used to seeing foot problems everyday. An experienced Chiropodist / Podiatrist should be able to provide accurate diagnosis, advice, and treatment of these and other common foot problems.

Verrucae are caused by a virus which gets into the skin and causes changes in the appearance of the skin. They can occur anywhere on the body as warts but most often on the feet as verrucae. The virus causes the localised build-up of hard-skin, and for blood vessels to grow up into that, hence verrucae sometimes have black dots showing in them. They are infectious and can spread around the feet, and also to other people, although this is more common when the skin is wet e.g. at swimming pools. Any treatment is designed to help your own body to fight the infection, and this can be done with weak acids (e.g. Bazooka, Salactol), strong acids, freezing treatments (e.g. Liquid Nitrogen), or laser therapy. The stronger the treatment, the more likely it is that the verruca will be cured. Once again, the right treatment plan can be recommended and provided by an experienced Chiropodist / Podiatrist.
